Asbestos was a mineral once used in many things because it was a fire retardant. But we now know that exposure to asbestos can cause mesothelioma cancer. Asbestos was used extensively in the military, most notoriously throughout naval ships, but also throughout military buildings, vehicles, and protective equipment and gear.
