VA Disability Pay Dates 2025

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provides monthly payments to veterans with service-related disabilities. The VA usually distributes disability payments on the first business day of each month. If the first day of the month is a holiday or weekend, the VA pays disability benefits on the last business day of the previous month. The exact schedule for VA disability pay dates varies from year to year, so it’s wise to plan ahead.

What To Do If I Did Not Receive My Payment

If you did not receive your VA disability payment on the expected date, call the Veterans Help Line at 800-827-1000 (TTY: 711). The helpline is available between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time. You can also visit your local VA benefits office for in-person assistance.

How Long Does It Take To Receive Back Pay?

You should receive your first VA disability payment within 15 days of your decision notice. The first payment may include back pay for any time between your eligibility date and the date you received approval for benefits. However, it can sometimes take longer to receive back pay for VA disability benefits.

Want to Increase Your VA Rating?

Receiving VA Disability Pay

The VA uses a rating system to determine the extent of your disability and your monthly payment amount. You can receive benefits if your VA disability rating is at least 10 percent, but higher ratings provide greater compensation. This VA disability pay chart can help you calculate your monthly payment based on your rating and the number of dependents you have.

Your VA disability rating is not set in stone. You can seek an increase in your rating if the VA has mistakenly determined your disability was less severe than it actually is. A VA disability rating increase is also possible if your service-related condition has worsened since your initial rating. A higher rating can mean more financial stability and access to additional VA benefits, so it’s worth exploring your options.
