Common Heart Conditions That Veterans Face

Video Transcript

PTSD in particular increases cardiovascular disease. In military service members, they tend to have more extreme stress during service, whether it’s combat, accidents, or disasters. And these extreme levels of stress tend to raise their blood pressure higher than most civilians.

This periodic increase in high blood pressure can have a long-term consequence. So many types of heart diseases are available for VA compensation. In an event that a veteran has a stroke, which is neurological, or heart attack, which is cardiovascular, the VA will assign them a temporary 100% VA disability rating and reevaluate the veteran and their condition after three to six months.
